Hi Everyone Haven't been on the forum for a while :( So hello and love to you all x Just wondered if anyone finds they suffer with a lot of headaches? My meds have not changed recently so thats why Im sure if there is any link. But they make me feel really ill, I get a lot of jaw pain so wondering if they could be the cause maybe. Feel really poo today, the headache started yesterday and just got worse and today still not great and now my right arm is bad and my elbow is swollen, which makes my arm feel like its locked in place. In July I had both elbows injected and the difference that made was amazing, I could straighten my arms for the first time in a very long time but i think they could be going back the same way. Fed up Take care Lou xxx I love people who can make you smile even when you do not feel like smiling. x

Hi Lou
Sorry to hear you are feeling so rough, the headache could possibly be connected with the jaw problem, with RA it is so unpredictable you can unfortunately never be sure of anything. Are you able to get in touch with your rheumy nurse ? I think you should have a word with someone now for peace of mind if nothing else.
Hope things improve for you very soon, Julia x

Hi Lou - I don't think we've met cos I've only been diagnosed earlier this year. So Hi and welcome back. Sorry to hear that you're feeling so rough, I agree with Julia and suggest you ring your rheumy nurse. Headaches can be made a lot worse by tension and stress, and it sounds as if you're having an RA flare which is so unpredicatable and worrying and maybe your meds need tweaking. Hope you feel better today and get it sorted out very soon - Sylvia xx Be kinder than is necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

Just a thought, probably not related at all, but painkillers themselves can cause headaches if taken for a long time.

hi,this is not uncommon i get headaches alot and now waiting for more physio, i have got oestio in my neck and shoulders and ra elswhere but the physio and gp have told me it is the neck/shoulders thats causing the headaches ie the muscle etc needs to rest but of course we have our heads held up permanently hence the aches,i do try and lie down just for 5min or put my head in a restfull position, get advice on it just to reassure what is causing them any way, dont let it go to long,be carefull of taking painkillers as said they can be the problem also, always try and support the neck when reading or watching tv, i limit the comp as well, dorothy

Hi Lou I suffer with migraines - have had them since I was 6 years old and take beta blockers which do work for me - certain RA meds trigger headaches. I am now on sulfaslazine and leflunomide and am headache free I have my elbows and shoulder injected every 6 weeks and it is fab. Hope your headaches go soon Rosie x Rosie

I used to get headaches that lasted literally weeks on end. Went to the GP in desperation and he said they originated in the neck (or cervical spine). It was thought it was osteo at the time. I was also having pins and needles in hands and one leg so was sent for an MRI. Shortly after I was diagnosed with RA. My headaches were one sided and extended right over the back of the head to one eye. Always the same side. If this sounds like yours then maybe it's your neck that's causing it. Hope this helps. Naomi, X

Hi Thank you for your replies, which is really interesting as I do get neck pain but I also get jaw pain every day so I have to wear a tooth guard at night because I grind my teeth. Doesn't stop me talking though! It's never ending isn't it! Take care Love Lou x I love people who can make you smile even when you do not feel like smiling. x

Life's a journey and RA is the cobbled and stony bit. You might try relaxation techniques - they can be very good at helping to destress muscles and good posture is important too - I always like pilates for focussing attention on standing and building core muscles.
